MORE THAN JUST A BOOK CLUB!

Karen Armstrong’s Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life

All over the world, as part of the global Charter for Compassion project, people are coming together to read Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life, and discussing her vision of the good life. Let’s read it together!

And it’s more than just reading and talking – we’ll commit to finding ways to take compassionate action, and to support one another as we act. Yes, we want to change the world, but we also want to change ourselves. This can only happen when people get together to reflect, connect, act, and explore the ideas of mutuality, empathy, community, and the interconnected web of life.

For four weeks we’ll meet once weekly, and then decide whether and how often we’ll continue to meet. We’ll meet on Saturday mornings – 10:30 to noon, downtown at Walnut Commons at the corner of Walnut and Center, beginning on Saturday, March 21, 2015.

Kick-off our city’s “Year of Compassion” by taking part in MLK Day of Service
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?'”- Martin Luther King Jr. mlk-day_large

Honor Dr King and his vision by joining a diverse group of Santa Cruz County volunteers for a day of a National Service.

Lend your hand to a local garden, restore native habitat, make a day brighter for a struggling community member or revitalize a community space.  Many project options are available throughout the county.

Join us for a kick-off celebration with Mayor Don Lane at Santa Cruz Bible Church from 9-9:45AM. We promise to inspire before sending you out into the community for a day of action.
